We love food at Retiro Park lodge, and provide guests with a delicious breakfast each morning using the best local produce, as well as from our own vegetable garden: freshly squeezed juice and fruit, muffins straight from the oven, local smoked salmon, free range bacon, eggs from our chicken coop…

Having dinner with your hosts at Retiro Park Lodge: In a relaxed party-like atmosphere, for a delicious three course dinner featuring the best of the seasonal local produce and matching wines: It might be steamed open Marlborough Sounds mussels, or baby spinach and blue cheese salad followed by the finest lamb cutlets, or fresh Tasman Bay fish and seafood followed by a Kaffir lime creme brulee or a vanilla pannacotta…

The price for dinner is NZ$95 per person, and notice is required. As there is a fifteen minute drive from the lodge to Nelson City, we would recommend that after a long day’s travel you reserve dinner for that first night at the time of your booking (under guests request in the on-line reservation form). It is also possible to arrange dinner in the morning before you leave for a busy day exploring beautiful Nelson.

Alternatively, the Nelson region is well known for its excellent produce and is well catered with good restaurants for the hungry traveller: We will be more than happy to make the reservation or direct you to an excellent restaurant.

Arriving on New Year's day we were invited to join the barbecue which the hosts (Robbert and Victor) put on for their friends and neighbours. This was followed by a superb home-cooked dinner, a welcome break from restaurant dining it was so good (centring on some simply cooked scallops), we decided to opt for dinner at the Retiro again on the final day of our trip (some marrow from the garden to start, a delicious fish pie and a home-made dessert). The quality of the dinners were matched by the outstanding home-cooked breakfasts, served each morning in the conservatory: fresh fruit picked from the garden, followed by a cooked breakfast included freshly laid eggs from the chicken coop.
